BITSA Challenge

(posted on behalf of Neil Willis)
At the next meeting (5th April) we are setting a challenge that should be a lot of fun and hopefully for some of us, it will also be informative. I am calling it the “BITSA Challenge” in which teams will source bits of different models, bring them along to the meeting on the 5th and collectively you will cobble them together into some form of plane and the following Sunday afternoon (8th April) they will be raced by your team at the field.

We already have three team captains who are Dave Tremelling, Pete Richards and myself (Neil Willis) and I am looking for at least one other captain (Volunteers please let me know). If you are interested in joining in, please get back to me and I will allocate you to a team and put you in touch with your team captain. You can then agree amongst yourselves which bits you have available and can bring along to the meeting to contribute to your team’s model. I plan on trying get teams with mixed experiences and abilities.

The hope is that we will have a bit of fun on the evening building the planes but it also has the benefit for the less initiated sharing and learning some of the basic principles of building and setting up a plane including centre of gravity, engine/motor, prop size and pitch etc.

Now for the few rules
1. No more than one component can be included from the same model type.
2. A component that is at least 10% of the plane, must not originate from a model i.e. make something from scratch.
3. The Plane must include parts from at least 3 different model types
4. Propulsion – IC, electric, jet, solar, hydrogen etc of any size.
5. The safety officer has to check that it is fit to fly before it races.

Please reply to this post or contact Neil directly to confirm whether you would like to participate and whether you are volunteering to be a captain.

Perfect - rather like the model we've created :D.
Only thing now is how much to charge RCM&E when they ask to publish the plan!
